Sanonda continues to decline in 2010

Chinese company Hubei Sanonda posted an 8.9% fall in “agrochemical” sales to Yuan 1,384.5 million ($211.3 million at the current rate) in 2010, well short of the Yuan 1,700 million ($259.4 million) it predicted in its 2009 year-end report ( Agrow No 590, p 6). Agrochemicals included pesticides and fertilisers and accounted for 93.3% of the company’s total sales. Exports including non-agrochemicals increased by 1.7% in 2010 to some Yuan 711.9 million ($108.6 million), while total domestic sales continued to fall, down 13.5% to Yuan 771.9 million ($117.8 million). The company highlighted the “complex” economic situation and unfavourable weather conditions in 2010, leading to a drop in pesticide usage. Costs for the agrochemical division were down 7.7% to Yuan 1,255.1 million ($191.5 million). During the period, a Yuan 70 million ($10.7 million) glyphosate herbicide plant reached 90% completion.
