Bayer and Syngenta to co-develop HPPD-tolerant soybeans
Bayer CropScience and Syngenta are to co-develop genetically modified hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) inhibitor herbicide-tolerant soybeans. The trait is in early development with launch in North America expected in the second half of this decade, the companies say. The trait should provide a “powerful mode of action” as well as becoming a weed resistance tool, particularly to glyphosate. The companies further envisage “significant” potential for out-licensing as well as use in the companies’ branded seeds businesses.
