US NPDES bill goes to Senate
US legislation aimed at overturning the requirement for Clean Water Act permits for pesticides applied over or near water has been introduced in the Senate. The ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Senator Pat Roberts, introduced bill S718 to the Senate this month. The bill would amend the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) to remove the need for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for FIFRA-registered pesticides. Similar legislation was passed by the House last month ( Agrow No 613, p 13).
