US targets more container recycling
The US agrochemical industry-funded Ag Container Recycling Council (ACRC) is targeting the collection and recycling of some 8.5 million lbs (3,856 tonnes) of pesticide containers this year. Just over 8 million lbs were collected in 2010, representing a 2.7% increase over the previous year. Most recycling occurred in California, with the collection of over 1.5 million lbs of containers. The other leading states were Texas, Washington, Mississippi and Arkansas, the ACRC notes. Of the 40 states in the programme, 25 reported increased collections and 15 decreases.
