Bayer debuts Fox fungicide in Brazil
Bayer CropScience has debuted a new foliar fungicide for use against Asian soybean rust ( Phakopsora pachyrhizi) in Brazil. Fox (trifloxystrobin + prothioconazole) is the “launch of the year” for the company in the country. Rust had been successfully controlled with triazole products, but several researchers reported resistance started appearing by 2008 ( Agrow No 543, p 17). The combination fungicide has been launched earlier this year in the US as Stratego YLD on maize and soybeans ( Agrow No 608, p 22). Fox will allow for a rotation of fungicide applications. The company claims that the product will boost productivity, controlling not only rust but also anthracnose ( Colletotrichum dematium var truncata) and leaf spot ( Corynespora cassiicola). The product was launched at a trade fair last month.
