Hexima pulls Australian GM cotton trials

The Australian biotechnology company, Hexima (Melbourne, Victoria), has withdrawn its application to the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator to conduct small-scale field tests of genetically modified disease-resistant cotton. The company had planned to test the cotton between October 2011 and July 2014. The cotton expresses a fungal resistance gene, NaD1, derived from ornamental tobacco, for the control of Fusarium spp and Verticillium spp wilt diseases ( Agrow No 611, p 25).
