Brazil defers GMO application decisions
The Brazilian biosafety authorities withdrew three applications for commercial approval of genetically modified crops from this month’s meeting agenda. They included a request for further data and reports for the DuPont application for commercial planting, import and for use as food or feed of its GM herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant TC1507xMON810xNK603 maize. Another DuPont commercial application has its environmental assessment pending. That is for its herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant Optimum Intrasect (Herculex1 TC1057xMON810 maize Monsanto’s glyphosate-tolerant and insect-resistant Roundup Ready Flex/Bollgard II cotton (MON88913) and a golden mosaic virus-resistant bean from the Brazilian agricultural research corporation, the Embrapa, were also withdrawn from the agenda. The national technical commission for biosafety, the CTNBio approved all but one of the 26 applications for field trials of various GM crops.
