US approval for Bayer's Alion herbicide
Bayer CropScience has received US approval for its residual herbicide, Alion (indaziflam 200 g/litre), for use on stone, pome and citrus fruit, and tree nuts and vines. They are the first food-use approvals for the active ingredient, which was registered for use on turf, as Specticle, last year ( Agrow No 599, p 20). The alkylazine herbicide provides a new mode of action for the control of a wide range of annual grass and broadleaf weeds, Bayer points out. “Alion applied at 5 oz/acre (0.3 kg/ha) will deliver six months or more of residual weed control,” says product manager Pau Yen.
