EFSA implements re-organisation programme

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is setting up an “applications desk” to act as a first contact point for companies submitting applications for approvals of agrochemicals and genetically modified crops. The move is part of a re-organisation programme that is due to be completed by early 2012. The aim is to address the “growing demands” with regard to assessing applications, the Authority says. The focus on applications will also mean that the EFSA “will be prepared” if the European Commission decides to introduce a fee-based system for funding the Authority’s work, it adds. The Commission is considering options for EFSA fees ( Agrow No 606, p 12).
