Agchem container recycling up 16% in Chile
The collection or recycling of empty plastic pesticide containers in Chile has enjoyed a second consecutive year of above 15% growth. Some 206 tonnes were recycled in 2010, up 16.4% on the previous year, according to the Chilean agrochemical association, the AFIPA. The AFIPA’s recycling programme started in 2001, when just 13 tonnes were recycled. It grew strongly until some 132 tonnes were collected in 2005 ( Agrow No 605, p 16). Volumes had risen slightly each year by 2007 to some 155 tonnes, before dipping to 150 tonnes in 2008 and then taking off again. The figures include only containers collected by the AFIPA’s programme members.
