The ten-year Brazilian agrochemical industry campaign against illegal or counterfeit pesticides has amassed seizures of more than 400 tonnes of products. Furthermore, some 310 tonnes of pesticides have been incinerated and 700 suspects arrested. The campaign has been led by the agrochemical industry trade association, the Sindag. The market for illegal pesticides was estimated to be worth $540 million in 2009 ( Agrow No 590, p 29).
