EFSA clears 2nd Bayer GM soybean line

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has concluded that Bayer CropScience’s genetically modified glufosinate-tolerant A5547-127 (LibertyLink) soybean line is as safe as its conventional counterpart. The EFSA safety clearance will go forward for consideration by the European Commission and EU member states. Bayer submitted its application in 2008 for EU approval for import, processing and use in food and feed. It already holds EU import approval for another LibertyLink glufosinate-tolerant soybean line, A2704-12 ( Agrow No 552, p 12). LibertyLink soybeans are approved for cultivation in the US, Canada and Brazil ( Agrow passim).
