Nufarm suffers fatality at Australian plant
Nufarm has suffered its first fatality in nearly 40 years of operations at its Australian agrochemical manufacturing facility in Laverton North, Victoria. A man died after being exposed to phenol while working on a pipe, according to the investigating authority, WorkSafe Victoria. Nufarm says that it is co-operating with the authorities to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. It occurred in a section of the plant that will not impact ongoing operations, Nufarm adds. Phenol is used in the manufacture of phenoxy herbicides.
