Chile govt seeks lower agchem use on export fruit
The Chilean Ministry of Agriculture is prioritising work for the safe use of pesticides. It has launched a project to reduce the use of pesticides on fruit destined for export through its agricultural research office, the INIA. The office is studying pesticide usage on apples and grapevines. Project leader Carlos Quiroz says the international challenge “obliges Chilean farmers to make less frequent applications with fewer pesticides, and find alternative pest and disease control methods”.
