EU re-registers tebufenozide
The European Commission has confirmed the re-registration of the insecticide, tebufenozide. The active ingredient will be added to Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) on June 1st. Dow AgroSciences resubmitted its application for tebufenozide in 2009 after the original EU evaluation identified data gaps ( Agrow No 569, p 11). Nippon Soda acquired tebufenozide from Dow last year ( Agrow No 589, p 3). EU member states have until May 31st 2015 to re-register products according to the conditions laid down in the Annex I listing. They must impose risk mitigation measures, where appropriate, to protect operators, workers, ground water, aquatic organisms and non-target lepidopteran insects. The registrant is required to submit further data by May 31st 2013 on the relevance of three metabolites, and the degradation of tebufenozide in anaerobic soils and soils of alkaline pH.
