Two more ais fail to gain EU re-registration
European Commission proposals not to re-register the fungicide, dicloran, and the plant growth regulator, flurprimidol, have been supported by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCFCAH). A re-application for dicloran had been submitted by Gowan’s Portuguese subsidiary, Gowan Comercio Internacional e Servicos, after the Commission originally decided against re-registration in 2008 ( Agrow No 568, p 11). As a result of that decision, use of the active ingredient in the EU was phased out in 2010. SePRO Europe re-applied for flurprimidol after the ai failed to gain re-registration in 2009, which also led to its phase out in 2010 ( Agrow No 587, p 14). Both decisions will now be formally adopted by the Commission.
