Syngenta trials GM sugar beets in Spain

Syngenta and Spanish researchers are conducting trials aimed at developing genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant and disease-resistant sugar beet in the north of Spain, regional newspaper, El Correo de Burgos, reports. The trials involve a glyphosate tolerance H7-1xSBVR11-derived gene, and a SBVR1-derived gene that is resistant to the beet disease, beet necrotic yellow vein virus (rhizomanía). The company informed the newspaper that the disease-resistant plant is also nematode-resistant.
