Chinese early rice plantings up

Plantings of early rice in China this year were estimated to be 5.9 million ha, an increase of some 107,000 ha on 2010, reports the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture. The increase in the planted area has been attributed to favourable prices and implementation of policy incentives. Early rice crops were heavily promoted in Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, with planted areas in the provinces increasing by over 73,000 ha and 22,000 ha, respectively.
