Norwegian directorate recommends against Amflora
The Norwegian directorate for nature management, the DN, has advised the Ministry of the Environment against approving the cultivation of BASF’s genetically modified amylopectin-starch potato variety, Amflora. It has also recommended against the use of the variety for industrial purposes or in feed in Norway. Amflora received EU approval for cultivation early last year under the EU GMO registration Directive (2001/18) for industrial use and the use of its starch by-products as feed ( Agrow No 587, p 12). The unintentional mixing of Amflora in food and feed up to 0.9% was also given the nod under the EU GM food and feed Regulation (2003/1829), and that has been rejected as well by the DN.
