US states seek exemptions for Dow's sulfoxaflor

Authorities in the US states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee have applied to the EPA for emergency exemptions for Dow AgroSciences’ unregistered insecticide, Transform WG (sulfoxaflor 50%), to control tarnished plant bugs ( Lygus lineolaris) on cotton. The applicants point to resistance among nearly every class of insecticide registered to control the pest. They are seeking usage on a combined area of some 1.4 million acres (570,000 ha). The EPA has scheduled an approval decision for sulfoxaflor for July-September 2012 ( Agrow No 617, p 13).
