EU GMO thresholds for feed imports in force

New EU rules have been issued that set a 0.1% threshold for the accidental presence of non-EU-approved genetically modified material in feed imports. EU Regulation 619/2011 lays down EU-wide sampling and analysis methods for feed. The threshold applies to material from GM crops for which an authorisation procedure is pending in the EU or an approval has expired. The rules are a response to complaints that the EU’s “zero tolerance” policy, which blocks imports containing traces of any unauthorised material, was being interpreted in different ways by EU member states.
