EFSA seeks views on protected crop agchems
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is seeking comments on a proposed approach to assessing emissions of pesticides from crops grown under cover. It is part of the EFSA’s development of new guidance on evaluating the environmental exposure of agrochemical applications to protected crops ( Agrow No 567, p 11). Current guidance only relates to open fields. The draft opinion identifies greenhouses and walk-in tunnels as the priority area for developing tiered risk assessment procedures. Emissions from soil-bound cultivations in walk-in tunnels, as well as both soil-bound and soil-less cultivations in greenhouses, may differ substantially from those in open fields, it concludes. Comments are requested by September 13th. The online consultation is available at: http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/consultations/call/110719a.htm.
