US non-payment approval cancellations
The US EPA is cancelling 254 pesticide registrations because of the non-payment of annual maintenance fees that were due on January 15th 2011. The routine cancellations affect 238 federal (FIFRA section 3) registrations and 16 special local need (section 24c) approvals. Maintenance fees were paid for 15,327 section 3 registrations, representing about 95% of those on file in December 2010. Fees were paid for 2,053 section 24c approvals, or about 90% of those on file. The EPA is authorised to collect $22 million in maintenance fees in fiscal 2011 (ending September 30th).
