China's insecticide production up 26% in June
Insecticide production in China jumped up 25.8% in June this year to 27,537.6 tonnes when compared with the previous month, while overall Chinese pesticide production fell 1% month-on-month to 82,621.1 tonnes, reports the Chinese Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA) The CCPIA's figures are based on production statistics from 385 manufacturers in China. Insecticides accounted for some 33.3% of pesticide production in June, an increase of seven percentage points. Extreme weather after April this year had led to relatively few outbreaks of insect pests, and excess capacity in the insecticide market. The CCPIA suggests manufacturers of insecticides adjust production to prevent “further oversupply”. China's insecticide production in 2010 was up 6% to 845,000 tonnes, accounting for 31.4% of total production that year ( Agrow No 614, pp 28-29).
