AgraQuest gets Brazil approval for Sonata
US biopesticide company AgraQuest has received commercial approval for its biofungicide, Sonata ( Bacillus pumilus strain QST 2808), in Brazil. Sonata is to be launched this year through distributor partner Iharabras. It is for the control of Alternaria spp and Botrytis spp on apples, onions and strawberries. The companies are to work together on adding more crops to the product’s label over the “next several seasons”. Sonata is the first product to be distributed through Iharabras’ newly created low environmental impact Eco-Division. The Ministry of Health’s national health inspection agency, the Anvisa, approved B pumilis strain QST 2808 last year ( Agrow No 611, p 29). Sonata has been sold since 2004 in the US ( Agrow No 460, p 26), and has since been launched in Mexico and South Korea, while AgraQuest has agreed distribution deals in various Latin American countries.
