Japan/Mexico OK Syngenta GM maize imports

Syngenta has received import approvals for its genetically modified stacked herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant Agrisure Viptera 3220 maize in Japan and Mexico. The company recently received US EPA authorisation for commercial planting ( Agrow No 614, p 23). The product has a dual mode of action against above- and below-ground lepidopteran insects, as well as glyphosate and glufosinate herbicide tolerance. Agrow previously mistakenly reported that Viptera 3220 had been approved for import in Japan and Mexico. That was only for the Viptera trait (MIR162), not the entire Viptera 3220 stack.
