Argentina phases out endosulfan
Argentina is to phase out the use of the organochlorine insecticide/acaricide, endosulfan. The national animal and plant health inspection service, the Senasa, issued Resolution 511/2011 setting import and use deadlines for the active ingredient. The import of the ai is to end on July 1st 2012, and use on July 1st 2013. The phase-out order follows the decision of the parties to the Rotterdam Convention on prior informed consent (PIC) to impose controls on its import and export ( Agrow No 620, p 19) and the parties to the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants to agree a global phase-out ( Agrow No 615, p 25).
