Attempt to broaden GM crop definition in France
In a bid to include plants produced through mutagenesis within the ambit of genetically modified crops, a group of activists in France destroyed a field of sunflowers produced through the process, reports French newswire AFP. The field was located at Feyzin in the Rhone region. The sunflowers were being tested for finding solutions to ragweed ( Ambrosia artemisiifolia) infestation. The act was said to be aimed at alerting the public to the “true nature” of the “mutant crops” produced using the method.
