Two more ais approach EU re-registration
The EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health has voted in favour of proposals to re-register the acaricide, acrinathrin, and the fungicide, 8-hydroxyquinoline. The decisions go forward for formal adoption by the European Commission. Cheminova re-applied for acrinathrin approval in 2009 ( Agrow No 574, p 14), having previously temporarily withdrawn the active ingredient from the EU review after data gaps were found. The acaricide holds national approvals in Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain. Spanish company Probelte re-applied for 8-hydroxyquinoline in 2008 ( Agrow 546, p 11). The Commission originally decided in 2006 not to re-register the ai, although certain essential uses were maintained for a limited period ( Agrow No 509, p 10). National approval in Spain is pending.
