US OKs food use for Certis biopesticide
The US EPA proposes to allow the first food-use registration of Certis USA’s (Columbia, Maryland) bioinsecticide, PFR-97 ( Isaria fumosorosea – formerly Paecilomyces fumosoroseus – Apopka strain 97). It is intended for insect and mite control on fruit, vegetables, ornamentals and other crops grown outdoors or under cover. The 20% water-dispersible granule formulation is for use at 1-2 lbs/acre (1.1-2.2 kg/ha). The Certis USA forerunner, Thermo Triology, received approval for non-food use of PFR-97 in 1998. Certis sought approval for use on all food commodities in December 2009. The proposed approval decision is open to public comment until September 11th.
