US needs data for fenamiphos import tolerances
The US EPA proposes to seek data to support the continuation of import tolerances for the organophosphate insecticide/nematicide, fenamiphos. It would require a comparative cholinesterase assay and an immunotoxicity study within 12 months and field trial data for grapevines within 24 months. The data would be necessary to support import tolerances for pineapples, grapes, raisins and bananas. US registrations for fenamiphos were cancelled in 2007 at the request of Bayer CropScience. In July, the EPA proposed extending the use of Bayer’s Nemacur (fenamiphos) for another three years to allow stocks to be exhausted ( Agrow No 620, p 12).
