Mexico approves MBI biofungicide

US biopesticide company Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI) has been granted authorisation to market its biofungicide, Regalia Maxx in Mexico. It is based on an extract of giant knotweed ( Reynoutria sachalinensis), which provides control of fungal and bacterial diseases. The Mexican registration covers use on conventional and organic fruit and vegetables to control diseases such as powdery mildew and early blight ( Alternaria solani). Regalia Maxx is a more concentrated formulation than the established knotweed extract-based Regalia, containing 20% against 5% for the older product. Regalia was launched in the US in 2008 ( Agrow No 553, p 23). MBI has tied up a deal with FMC to distribute and develop the product in Latin America (see this issue).
