Support for EU funding system for minor-use agchems
About 96% of respondents to an EU survey are in favour of establishing a European fund to co-ordinate activities aimed at increasing approvals of agrochemicals for use on minor crops. The study, carried out by the Food Chain Evaluation Consortium (FCEC) for the European Commission, found more than 1,400 cases where there was a crop protection problem due to lack of available products. The full picture is likely to be worse as only 15 EU member states provided information, the study’s authors point out. The collected economic data indicated an impact of more than €1,000 million ($1,441 million) per year on a total of over 9 million ha, they add.
