US EPA to OK tomato canker biopesticide
The US EPA has proposed the approval of US company OmniLytics’ (Salt Lake City, Utah) bactericide, AgriPhage CMM, for the control of canker ( Clavibacter michiganensis subsp michiganensis) on tomatoes. The biopesticide is based on a new active ingredient comprising bacteriophages active specifically against C michiganensis subsp michiganensis. The EPA has conducted a joint review of the application with the Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Authority, as requested by OmniLytics. The company submitted its application in March 2009, with an EPA notification being issued in March 2010 ( Agrow No 588, p 24). The proposed approval decision is open to public comment until September 26th.
