Clomazone sales resume in Germany
The German federal office for consumer protection and food safety, the BVL, has modified its suspension of authorisations for products containing the herbicide, clomazone. The office suspended all authorisations last week as a “precautionary” action after reports of health problems following field application of the herbicide in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. But an objection lodged by companies holding authorisations had a “suspensive effect” on the earlier action and products containing clomazone can be sold and used “until further notice”. The causes for the health problems are being reviewed and the BVL will decide on further action once it receives the assessment report.
