Bayer to phase out WHO class I insecticides by 2012
Bayer CropScience is accelerating the phase out of all of its remaining WHO Class I insecticides. The move will mean that all sales of products containing such insecticides will end by the end of next year. The chemicals will be replaced by more targeted, environmentally friendly products, the company says. CEO Sandra Peterson says the replacement policy is “fully in line with our commitment to sustainable agriculture”. The move affects all WHO Class I formulations for foliar use, soil applications and seed treatments. New products are already available to its customers, Bayer says.
