Brazil court suspends methamidophos injunction

The Brazilian national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, has won its appeal against the court decision of July suspending its phase out of the insecticide, methamidophos. The federal capital regional court, the TRF (Brasilia), suspended the injunction that Brazilian agrochemical company, Fersol (Mairinque), had been granted in July ( Agrow No 619, p 15). That ruling of the Second Vara (Jurisdiction) Federal Court authorised Fersol to continue producing the insecticide, despite the Anvisa’s phase out order. The judgment came as the Court felt that Fersol had not been given a right to defend the sale and use of methamidophos in the Anvisa’s reassessment of the active ingredient.
