Indian committee recommends endosulfan export

The expert committee appointed by the Indian Supreme Court has recommended allowing current export orders held by domestic manufacturers for the organochlorine insecticide/acaricide, endosulfan, to countries where its use is still permitted, reports Indian newspaper The Hindu. The export orders are for 1,734 tonnes of the active ingredient and 292.5 kilolitres of formulations. The Court imposed a temporary ban on the ai in May ( Agrow No 616, p 23) and directed the committee in August to examine the possibilities of exporting the ai with a focus on: existing stocks within the country; the amount that could be exported on the basis of pending export orders; the countries to which it could be exported; and international conventions governing the conditions of export ( Agrow No 622, p 26).
