US EPA OKs Biocontrol Technologies biopesticide
The US EPA has proposed the approval of Spanish company Biocontrol Technologies’ (Barcelona) biofungicide, T34 Biocontrol ( Trichoderma asperellum strain T34), for the control of the soil-borne disease, Fusarium oxysporum, in greenhouse ornamentals. The product, which is based on a new active ingredient, is specifically intended for use on carnations. It acts by colonising roots and acting as a physical barrier to pathogens as well as inducing the synthesis of defence proteins in plants. The EPA notified receipt of the approval application in November 2010 ( Agrow No 605, p 22). The approval decision is open to public comment until October 14th.
