China may restrict paraquat usage

A representative of China's Ministry of Agriculture has said that China may place further restrictions on “high-risk” pesticides such as the herbicide, paraquat, in the near future, reports the Chinese newspaper, the AgriGoods Herald. The remarks were made at a pesticide forum held by the China Association of Pesticide Development and Application in Beijing in August. The Ministry expressed its hope that enterprises will support such new restrictions. China's pesticide manufacturers were also urged to cease “high-toxicity” pesticide production and convert production lines to “lower risk” active ingredients.
