EU clears acquisition of Compo
The European Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of German garden pesticide company Compo (Münster) by the Jersey-based private equity firm, Triton. Compo sells pesticides, fertilisers and seed for home gardens and professional users. It is part of the German fertiliser and salt supplier, K+S Group. Compo formed an alliance with Syngenta in 2005 to develop and market pesticides in the European lawn and garden sector ( Agrow No 481, p 1). The Commission was prompted to check whether the proposed transaction complied with EU merger rules because one of the investment funds run by Triton controls German company Schirm, which supplies contract manufacturing services for non-agricultural pesticides.
