Brazil updates organic crop rules

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has issued updated regulations governing the production of organic crops. Among the changes is the inclusion of the type of permitted biological or chemical substances for use in organic crop production. The new regulation, Normative Instruction 46, replaces NI 64 of 2008. It was issued in the national gazette on October 7th. Since the start of this year, products marketed as organic have to carry an official stamp, the Brazilian system of organic conformity ( Agrow No 607, p 17).
