US pesticide production facilities contract

The number of US pesticide production facilities subject to hazardous air pollutant standards has dropped significantly since the standards were established in 1999. An information collection request (ICR) submitted by the EPA to the Office of Management and Budget indicates that there are “approximately 15 sources” subject the rules, compared with 88 in the previous ICR. The decline is attributed to plant closures, corporate mergers and foreign competition. No new facilities are expected to be constructed over the next three years, the EPA notes.
