No EU renewal for cinidon-ethyl and cyclanilide
Proposals to initiate EU phase-outs of the herbicide, cinidon-ethyl, and the plant growth regulator, cyclanilide, have been given the go ahead by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health. The two active ingredients were in the second group of ais to go through the process for renewing EU approvals. However, no applications for their renewal were received by the deadline ( Agrow No 622, p 12). The European Commission is now able to formally adopt its proposals, which state that the ais are no longer eligible for the approval extension granted until the end of 2015 to complete the renewal process. As a result, the phase-outs will be based on their original approval expiry dates. EU member-state approvals for cyclanilide would end by April 30th 2012, with use of existing stocks allowed up to October 31st 2013, while the corresponding dates for cinidon-ethyl would be September 30th 2012 and March 31st 2014.
