Chile finds 99% MRL compliance in fruit exports

Just 1% of Chilean fruit exports contained pesticide residues above the country’s own maximum residue limits (MRLs) and those of the UN FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission in 2009/10, according to a study by the Chilean agriculture and cattle service, the SAG. The service initiated its pesticide residue monitoring programme in April 2009. It selected 18 export fruits, and took a total of 1,639 samples, testing them against each of the two MRL systems.
