Syngenta debuts new GM maize lines in US
Syngenta has introduced genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant maize hybrids with reduced refuge requirements for above- and below-ground pests in the US. Agrisure Viptera 3220 provides a dual mode of action against above-ground pests and a 5% structured refuge. It combines Syngenta’s MIR162 ( Bt Vip3A toxin), Bt11 (Cry1Ab) and Dow AgroSciences/DuPont’s Herculex 1 (Cry1F). Agrisure Viptera 3122 provides dual modes of action against above- and below-ground pests and a 5% refuge. It combines Bt11, MIR604 (mCry3A), Herculex 1 and Herculex RW (Cry34Ab1 + Cry34Ab1). Both lines are tolerant to the herbicides, glyphosate and glufosinate-ammonium. Syngenta is seeking approval for refuge-in-a-bag versions under the EZ-Refuge brand.
