Arcadia/SASRI ink research deal
The US agricultural technology company, Arcadia Biosciences (Davis, California), and the South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI – Mount Edgcombe, Kwa-Zulu Natal) have agreed a research deal focusing on developing nitrogen use efficient (NUE) sugar cane. SASRI will have exclusive research rights to the use of Arcadia’s NUE technology in sugar cane in Africa. Sugar cane is one of the most intensive users of nitrogen fertilisers in some areas. NUE technology typically allows crops to maintain high yields with halving the amount of nitrogen fertilisers used, says Arcadia.
