Argentina OKs Syngenta triple stack GM maize
Syngenta has been granted commercial approval in Argentina for its genetically modified triple stack herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant Agrisure Viptera 3110 (Bt11xMIR162xGA21) maize. The maize offers tolerance to glyphosate and glufosinate-ammonium, and produces the Bt Vip3A and Cry1Ab toxins. It controls fall armyworms ( Spodoptera frugiperda), sugarcane borers ( Diabrotica saccharalis) and corn earworms ( Helicoverpa zea), the “main insect threats” to Argentine maize, and of other damaging lepidopteran pests. The triple stack, which has already been launched in Brazil ( Agrow No 609, p 22), will be available to Argentine growers for the 2012/13 season, Syngenta says.
