Certis confirms US approval of PFR-97
The US biopesticide company, Certis USA (Columbia, Maryland), has confirmed the US approval of its bioinsecticide, PFR-97 ( Isaria fumosorosea Apopka strain 97), for insect and mite control on fruit and vegetable crops. It is aimed at the control of thrips, psyllids, whiteflies, mealybugs and spider mites. Certis expects the biopesticide to be “instrumental” in the control of the exotic pests, chilli thrips ( Scirtothrips dorsalis), which were found in Florida in 2005. The development of resistance is already eroding the utility of newer insecticides for thrips control, the company notes. The US EPA proposed the first food-use approval of PFR-97 in August ( Agrow No 622, p 27).
