EFSA advises improvements to MON810 maize monitoring
There were some “shortcomings” in the methodology of Monsanto’s 2009 post-market monitoring programme for its genetically modified MON810 Bt maize, says the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). It has issued specific recommendations for improvements to the strategy, methodology and reporting. The results of the monitoring programme, which were released earlier this year, were passed to the EFSA for analysis ( Agrow No 608, p 9). They did not reveal any adverse effects on the environment or health due to MON810 cultivation, the EFSA says.
